Guild Homes (Tayside) Limited are the proud sponsor of ‘The Stag Roundabout’ on the Kirriemuir Road, Forfar. After securing planning permission, we proceeded to complete all necessary work including the clearance of the roundabout, the installation of the stone boulders and gravel before erecting the stag sculpture.
Our objective was to create a beautiful welcome to Forfar, both for the residents of, and visitors to the town. Like our houses, the sculpture was produced in Angus using skilled local companies.
As such, we wish to thank the following local bodies for their contribution to the project:
- Forfar in Flower, who approached and provided us with the opportunity to sponsor the Kirriemuir Road roundabout
- Zack Finnie, a pupil of Forfar Academy, who through a school competition proposed the Stag theme for the roundabout
- Reekie Steeltech of Arbroath who provided the design and laser cut the Corten Steel* that was used in production of the stag
- Kevin Robertson of E N Robertson Blacksmiths, Forfar who fabricated the stag
- Jim Laird of Laird Bros, Forfar who provided the large boulders from their quarry to form the base of the stag and for use in the surrounding landscape feature
- Jeff Meek and his team at SSL Landscaping, Forfar who supplied and planted the shrubs
- Hayden and Anna Thomas of Stonepack, Forfar who supplied the decorative gravel
- Finally, the Guild Homes workforce who physically pulled everything together and formed this entrance feature to Forfar. We will continue to regularly weed the roundabout and maintain the grass verges and frontage into our ‘Strathmore Fields’ development to always ensure a tidy welcome to the town
*Corten steel, often known as Weathered Steel is the same material as used to fabricate Gateshead’s ‘Angel of the North’, was specifically chosen to make the stag as it very quickly develops a protective rusty surface layer similar in colour to a red deer, that importantly almost ceases internal corrosion completely.
A huge number of positive comments were received on the ‘Stag Roundabout’ within weeks of it being completed and we hope it continues to bring much pleasure to both locals and visitors alike in the many years ahead!
