Friockheim Green
The name ‘Friockheim’, literally translated, means ‘Heather Home’. Friock is a derivative from the Gaelic ‘fraoch’ (heather) and ‘heim’ from the German for home.
Friockheim is a scenic little village located in a beautiful part of Angus nestled between the market towns of Forfar, Arbroath, Brechin and Montrose.
Dating back nearly 200 years, the village has a population of around 1000 and offers all the local amenities you would want from a quiet country location such as a convenience store, newsagent, pharmacy, two public houses as well as several small businesses and shops. There is also a public park, a primary school and a good local health centre. The church, dominated by a central clock tower, dates from 1835 and forms a welcoming focal point to those entering the west end of the village.
Friockheim also has royal connections, with the local Gunsmith displaying a ‘By Royal Appointment’ sign, due to their supply of guns to HRH Prince Charles.
